What Is Expected of Advisory Members?
- A strong commitment to MOAA evidenced by support through membership. Membership is not required to apply, but BASIC, PREMIUM, or LIFE membership is required to serve on the council. PREMIUM or LIFE membership is encouraged.
- Availability to participate in meetings on a quarterly basis (teleconference options are available). Meetings are typically held via Microsoft Teams in the evenings from approximately 6:00-7:30 pm Eastern. Times can vary. Council members also are invited to participate in MOAA’s annual Advocacy in Action activities on Capitol Hill, as well as periodic legislative meetings.
- Willingness to express your opinions as well as those of your fellow officers.
- Willingness to serve as ambassador for MOAA at local events, share MOAA’s value proposition and perspectives with fellow officers, and urge them to join the organization.
In return, MOAA Advisory Members will have the opportunity to share insights, experiences, and best practices with MOAA stakeholders and legislative staff to enhance programs, policies, and resources for uniformed servicemembers and their families.
MOAA Advisory Members agree not to:
- Initiate programs or support on MOAA’s behalf without the consent of the association president and approval of the board of directors.
- Act or make decisions on behalf of the association without prior approval.
When unable to promote the purpose of MOAA or abide by established duties and limitations, it may be necessary for an individual to resign. Additionally, it may be necessary to remove an adviser if doing so is in MOAA’s best interest. Possible reasons for removal include:
- Acting contrary to MOAA and its mission and strategic goals.
- Violating the confidentiality agreement.
- Missing more than two meetings in a year (exceptions may be made in case of an emergency).
- Engaging in behavior that detracts from MOAA’s mission.
