MOAA, in partnership with the Reserve Officers Association, will host a series of discussions June 26 designed to determine what actions must be taken to better support reserve component families.

The National Guard and Reserve Family Forum will highlight the experiences of these families, which differ from those of active duty families but have been on the wrong end of a research gap. MOAA will bring together experts in the fields of pay and benefits, children’s education and well-being, and family and community programs to discuss these issues, and also will host a panel on the sufficiency of pay and benefits for reserve component servicemembers, an issue MOAA set out to address at the beginning of 2019.

The event will shed light on:

• The challenges faced by reserve component children in school, especially during times of deployment.
• Issues with child care accessibility.
• Employment barriers faced by servicemembers and spouses.
• Accessibility to DoD resources for those living far from military installations
• Other unique challenges faced by reserve component servicemembers and their families.

The essential perspectives and insights from the panelists, including key senior leaders, will give MOAA a deeper understanding on how better to serve National Guard and Reserve servicemembers and their families through legislative and collaborative efforts.
