It's the question of the moment: Where is my COVID-19 stimulus check?

The IRS is in the process of paying the personal stimulus checks by direct deposit -- and by paper check, for some. The process is expected to take into early May. Don’t get concerned if you have not received yours yet.

The plan is for individuals to get $1,200 and couples to get $2,400, plus $500 extra for each child in the household. Get the details on eligibility, including income limits, here.

Direct deposit is the best method to receive your check. But how does the IRS have your direct deposit information? Or that they need to send a check?

If you filed returns in 2018 or 2019 with direct deposit information on the return, you are good to go. The IRS has your information. If you filed in 2018 or 2019 but did not have direct deposit information on your return, you go to this IRS site and click on the “Get My Payment” button to provide your information to the IRS.

If you did not file a tax return in 2018 or 2019 because you weren’t required to, then go to this IRS site and click the “Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here” button to provide your direct deposit information. However, do not use this button if you are a non-filer who receives a government payment already paid by Social Security, the VA, or Railroad Retirement-Survivor Benefits. If you receive these benefits as a non-filer, the IRS will use your Social Security, VA, or Railroad information. NOTE: Non-filers with children under age 17 need to click on the button to let the IRS know of dependent children.
