Barbara Ann Bowman is the surviving spouse, and caregiver for 10 years, of Lt. Col. Curtis W. Fore, a Vietnam veteran with a 100% service-connected disability rating.
She is the MOAA Surviving Spouse Liaison for the Norman, Okla., Chapter and Oklahoma Council. She contributes a monthly article to the chapter newsletter and reports to the council on surviving spouse, veteran, retiree, and family resources. She attends MOAA regional trainings as well as those of other veteran-centric organizations, to include the Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Commission and Oklahoma Bar Association Military and Veterans Section.
Bowman holds bachelor's and master's degrees in modern languages and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Oklahoma. In private practice, she concentrated on end-of-life issues. She maintains VA acccreditation in retirement.
Her background includes teaching high school French and German; English as a Second Language to international businesspeople; and business issues seminars with local business owners.
She's held leadership and board-level positions in organizations such as the local and international Kiwanis Club, Moore-Norman Vocational-Technical School, Girl Scouts of America and Boy Scouts of America, and organized the first Key Club in Norman.
She serves as community member for Institutional Review Board, University of Oklahoma, Health Sciences Center.
Bowman maintains contact with Oklahoma legislators dealing with legislation affecting the service community. Previous experience included researching and writing position papers, as well as lobbying with League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women.
